Band of Builders Project
How a group of people can change one family's life! Artex supports Band of Builders on Kyle's Project.
Kyles's life turned upside down when he was diagnosed with incurable brain cancer back in 2019. Thanks to the Band of Builders charity, a building tradesperson himself, whose home extension came to a halt when he was diagnosed, is now enjoying his home with his family after the 8-day project.
Band of Builders (BoB) is a registered charity that aims to help members of the construction industry when times get tough, whether that's through hands-on projects, advice and support, or just the sense of community that has grown through the simple act of wearing a BoB t-shirt or hoodie.
Kyle's Project 2022 is about making practical changes to the project that Kyle had started before his diagnosis. Kyle was a construction teacher at a local academy school and a volunteer himself, but he has run out of the energy he once had since the diagnosis. This project has been all about making sure he has a comfortable place, especially in his bedroom, as this will be where he will recuperate after his chemotherapy.
The BoB Project Lead Jake Anderson said: "We want to make practical changes to make his life easier, we don't want to put him in disabled bathrooms as we want him to have his independence, but we want to give him the practical help".
Among the trades working on the project and the donations made by suppliers, our team went down to see our customer Jewson to find out how they support BoB and how we collaborated on such a fantastic project.
Jewson has been supporting Band of Builders as an official charity partner since 2021. Their Hereford branch has helped raise money for Kyle's Project in-store by running weekly competitions with their customers. They donated tools and timber to support the project and supplied a ton and half digger they have been using on-site. Jewson has been a helping hand throughout by providing some dehumidifiers instantaneously to get them out of a sticky situation in a time-critical project with only seven days to complete the work.
Here at Artex, we have been able to help support this project by working with Jewson, who was the merchant of choice for Band of Builders, to donate plasterboard and angle trim for the project.
Kyle is grateful for all the hard work and support he has received from the volunteers. He says, "Those late nights and hard graft have paid off as you have provided a beautiful home for my family and I. You have all put a smile on my face and, more importantly, the faces of my family."
