Artex first introduced its textured finishes in 1935 (with the
brand name coming from two words – artistic and texture). By the
1980s, the company had achieved phenomenal growth, making Artex a
household name.
The company invested heavily in developing new products and
manufacturing techniques, and by the 1990s, the company had built
the largest plant in the UK for producing decorative plaster
mouldings.
Artex and Blue Hawk (another DIY supplier established in 1972),
while dealing with different customers, had many products in
common. So in 1997, the two companies merged to create a company
that could better serve both the building and home improvement
sectors.
In 1985, Saint-Gobain, a leader in the production, processing
and distribution of material established its first major base in
the UK. By 2005, Saint-Gobain had over 40 subsidiary companies in
the UK, and acquired Artex and the rest of the BPB group, as part
of its construction products division.
Now as part of the Saint-Gobain Group, Artex are intent on
becoming the essential supply partner to the building and home
improvement sectors. The company is focusing on delivering
excellent customer service, providing a specialist multi-drop
distribution service, and offering a wide range of decorative,
building and specialist tool products. The extensive Artex product
range is continuously developed to meet the needs of today’s
demanding market.
