In the production and provision of such a wide product portfolio, Artex take a total approach to product stewardship. We have both the responsibility and ability to reduce the environmental impacts of our products at every stage and continually strive to improve the way we work.
Environmental & Site Risk Policy
At Artex, our objectives are to operate in a manner that maximises our contribution to sustainable development, demonstrate continuous improvement in environmental performance, reduce environmental impacts and prevent pollution.
To ensure that our objectives are achieved an Environmental Management System accredited to ISO14001:2004 is employed at our site. This ensures conformance to all applicable legislation, codes of practice, customer requirements and environmental obligations.
To support our objectives, Artex has an environmental improvement plan, and regularly reviews it to ensure that continual improvement in performance is achieved and sustained. Artex provides sufficient information, training and guidance to enable employees and others to work in accordance with this policy.
Through effective reduction and better utilisation of materials used on site, we aim to ensure waste is kept to a minimum, including: reducing packaging at source; design enhancement; and implementing pallet re-use systems.
Preparing for re-use
To enable Artex to maximise re-use and minimise waste, our Ruddington operations have created an area for re-using pallets, including appropriate cleansing to ensure optimum care and re-use of its stock. Allied with our designated plaster and plasterboard recycling zone, we have established direct links with the reprocessing facility, to enable efficient re-use of materials.
Artex collects and recovers elements of packaging used to protect product in transit, specifically plasterboard and cove/cornice. These are gypsum based products and are recycled into the British Gypsum manufacturing process.
Artex has strong ties with a major UK waste contractor to ensure our segregated waste is processed ethically and to maximise the opportunity for recycling or re-use. This is something we urge through our Technical Advice Line for customers to do when disposing of the waste generated from our products.
